Treasure Hunt Thursday No. 9 - Treasure Hunting in France

Most of you know that we spent a week at our cottage in France recently, and of course I so wanted to visit some vide greniers while we were there. Humph, there was just one teeny little vide greniers the first Sunday we were there, and what was really frustrating was that a couple of weeks later there were going to be loads, LOADS in our area! Ah well, I am looking forward to a summer of vide greniers in July and August. I managed a quick visit to two brocantes as well and found a few more bits and pieces.

The first thing I found at the vide greniers was this fabulous perspex (?) and wood advertising sign, Olivet. I love the way the letters flow and the tiny swan on the top. Wouldn't that look great in a kitchen? -

You have probably seen pics of our cottage and the tiny kitchen, so you will understand when I say that I don't have room in there for it. But I couldn't just leave it on the stall, it is too cute! So I will probably put it in the blogshop.

Next were two books., another 1920s Larousse with great illustrations ( opened randomly ) -

and a fabulous illustrated encyclopaedia, also from the 1920s, which I had not come across before -

That was it from the little vide greniers, the rest is from a couple of Brocante shops. You gonna love the next thing.......................... a vintage fabric covered chocolate box! -

Isn't it ever so pretty?

And talking of pretty things, I was absolutely delighted to find this lace. The colour is a slightly peachy pinky beige, and the design is just gorgeous. It is really wide as well, perfect for backgrounds or frills on larger projects -

What else did I find in the brocante? Sewing stuff, just a few little bits, but of course there were buttons -

vintage yellow seam binding, a little piece of prettily embroidered trim and a piece of tiny trim in pretty colours of soft green and pink -

These weird wooden things looked like they used to have thread wound onto them, they are pretty darned big, and I am going to use them to wind laces onto them -

A piece of blue striped vintage fabric, great for summer seaside collages -

two dinky little cups with sweet little flower decoration, to be made into little pin cushions -

A large book with lots of illustrations, some of them rather macabre, which put me in mind of Halloween -

and a few pieces of ephemera, including some magazines from 1905 with fabulous ads -

Ooops, this has turned into a long post again, how does that always happen, sigh? Hope I haven't bored you to tears. Gonna get my butt out of here now, lol.
