Mermaids Collage

You remember the mermaid tags I made a little while ago? I loved the graphic so much, I made half a dozen or so tags with it. In the end, tag size just wasn't good enough, and I decided to make something larger with it. Like an embellished cushion. So I printed the image onto fabric, laid it out on the table with different bits and pieces......... and there it stayed for ages. Somehow the cushion idea just didn't do it for me. And then I remembered that I had an old battered and dilapidated Victorian photo album, and one of those pages would make a great frame for the graphic! Once I had cut the page out of the album, my muse cut her holiday short and came home, and things came together quite nicely. It was so much fun going through all my stashes for the embellishments to use on this collage. I used lots of shells which I had collected many years ago when the boys were still little, some funky seaweed, a beautiful deep blue earring, a gorgeous little pendant with crystals, vintage seam binding, netting from an old hat, stickles to simulate sand, faux pearls from a vintage necklace and a very historic piece of wood found on the beach - a small fragment of our beautiful pier which was burned down last year by some braindead morons.

Work in progress -

adding a few more things to the top of the collage -

Embellishing the bottom of the collage -

And here it is, the finished collage -

I am happy with it.

I also made a good start on the Birdsong Tag Book swap. Perhaps I'll post some of the tags I have completed so far, tomorrow.

Until then, toodlepip xxx

Hi Liz, adore the collage everything is so apt to the sea - I have also just noticed (how dozey am I that you have a couple of Rhodesian Ridgebacks - well thats what we were brought up with most of our youth in Zim) Looking at them they sure got character - have a great weekend x

Wonderful -Liz, the old page from the photo album, is a perfect background, for all the storyes from the sea you added.
The netting and shells, piece of wood-(I remember you told the story-last year)--the pearls and blue "diamonds"--so gorgeus, and beautiful.
Wish you a great week-end, friend.

Love the old page and how you have embellished it with the blues and greens and a touch of black with the netting and burnt wood (sadly!). It comes together very well indeed this sea themed collage!
Have a great weekend Liz,
Suzy
