ANIMAL SHELTERS CHARITY AUCTIONS

I have been sitting on this post for a couple days, debating whether I should post it or not. Would people be offended? Would people want to help? But in the end I thought, sod it, if I can help just a few animals with vaccinations etc, then I don't care if some of you are offended/put off my blog or whatever. It is the animals that matter. So here goes, folks :-) -

As a lot of you know, we have two wonderful doggies, Rhodesian Ridgebacks. We got both of them through a Ridgeback Rescue charity. Poppy and Hector are part of our family and I guess that makes me a bit of a dog nut, lol. It wasn't until recently that I was made aware of the incredible work some animal charities do to  rescue dogs ( and cats ) in Bulgaria, Romania and Portugal. It is quite unbelievable how animals are treated in those countries, and every day I am in tears when I see photos of these poor creatures left to die in the streets, or hear the desperate pleas for funds from the small charities struggling so much to rescue them. Sometimes though, I smile through tears with such relief when I see what the love and care of these amazing people has done for animals - from skeletal dogs having lost almost all their hair, eyes dull without hope they went to healthy, beautiful, happy dogs just loving cuddles. And the really lucky ones get adopted and start a wonderful new life here in the UK, Netherlands or Belgium.

To cut a very long story short, I want to help. Darn, you all know I am a terrible hoarder of all sorts of things. This seems a good way to let go of some, to downsize and help the rescuers at the same time. I thought a good way to do it would be to hold a few auctions here on the blog. I would show some items, list a start price, you bid in the comments and after a set time, perhaps 3 or 5 days, whoever is the highest bidders wins. Payment would be by Paypal. Whatever amounts are raised would be divided between the charities I am supporting at the moment -

Romanian Rescue Appeal - https://www.facebook.com/romanianrescueappeal/
Help Bulgaria Street Cats and Dogs -

Rudozem Street Dog Rescue -https://www.facebook.com/rudozemstreetdogrescue

Do visit their facebook pages yourselves to see what incredible difference the rescuers make to the animals' lives.

So, what do you think? Would you be prepared to bid on some French lace, some great trims, ephemera and all the usual French stuff I have filled the house with?
Got some men in your life who wear ties? When my DH was still working, he wore a tie every day, and he has a huge collection of high quality designer ties like Armani, Paul Smith, Ferragamo, Hermes, Versace, Gucci, Tyrwhitt, Cardin etc, you name it he has it, lol. Nice little stocking filler for Christmas, if I pull my socks up and get going.

Please let me know what you think, I don't want to waste my time with this if there is no interest, I would really rather use my time to try and raise some funds in other ways. If there is some support for this, then I'll start a couple of auctions on the weekend. Perhaps you could put this button with a link back to this post on your blog to spread the word a bit, and for every button put on a blog, I will make another small donation ( so make sure to tell me ). See, its that easy to start helping.

Thank you for reading this post and considering helping. Toodlepip xxx

Hi Liz,
I would be happy to make some bids on your beautiful treasures! (if it happens.) I think it is a kind and generous thing you are attempting to do; helping out these animals in cruel situations. I will watch for your auctions; if you do decide to do this. Just let us know. I am on a budget; but that doesn't mean I don't have some extra for things like this! : ) Would love to help. Keep in touch Liz. Bless you, Karen O

Hi Gillian, I couldn't reply to you any other way as you don't have an email connected with blogger.Firstly, a big thank you for commenting, I really appreciate it. I know there are so many animal charities, but I can't support them all. I have chosen these because nothing, nothing in the UK compares to the horrifying situations in Bulgaria and Romania. In addition, every year, instead of physical Christmas presents, my parents in law donate to a UK animal rescue charity on our behalf.

Good idea Liz, and I would take part...but I'm wondering if just before Christmas is the best time to launch this, as there are so many calls on our finances.

I am glad you brought that up, I thought about it as well. But..... the winter is the worst time for the animals out there with constant sub zero temperatures. If I leave it until after Christmas, people will say they don't have the money because they spent it all on Christmas. If I leave it to the Spring, it will be too late for many of the dogs on the streets, they simply die. Right now, people are spending god knows how much money on Christmas presents and excessive amounts of food, surely a few £ or $ are a drop in the ocean. Darnit, I am not asking people to donate money, I am just asking whether they would buy something which they all profess to loving so much every time I post pictures.

You are right about the excessive amounts of food...you only have to look at peoples' trolleys in the supermarkets.

Liz, bless your heart for wanting to help these poor animals. I am working on a lace book and could use some lace for sure. I don’t mind giving myself an extra little Christmas present…Good luck.

Thanks for your reply and please do not think that I was "having a dig at you".
Its a superb idea, but many of the euro dog rescue have a connection to UK rescues,ie,they send dogs over to the UK.
But once they arrive the UK rescue do not get funding from the senders,if you know what I mean.
My son is involved in Doberman rescue and the are sent dogs from all over the world, but their funding comes from generous people in the UK.
Love and blessings,Gillian.
