Our Beautiful World - Time Passing

When I saw the theme for this week I immediately thought of how the passage of time left its mark on buildings. Last summer we went to a little vide grenier in a small village called Trois Vevres and right behind the few stalls was the ruin of a once beautiful building -

I remember one of the stall holders telling me that the building used to be a monastery which was destroyed by fire many years ago. A fascinating building, which must have been so beautiful once upon a time.

Beautiful pictures of the old building, Liz.
It was so amazing to me to be in Rome and see those buildings that were SO old, ancient by US standards, yet people were still living in them and they were kept up so well. I was hard for me to fathom buildings being 1000 years old.I do love old buildings however!
It is so amazing to see those old buildings of Europe.

Oh superb! How sad it was destroyed by fire. Yes it looks like it could have been something like a monastery!

If you and Andy could consider taking on its restoration than you just might end up back in LaLaLand!!! (hehehe!)

Big stonework hugs to you!

what a splendid old building. I love the striped detail with the red bricks. I imagine it was quite a stately building in its day.

How sad to almost loose such a beautiful old building to a fire-- normally also wind, weather, and very much also everything we human beings sends into the air can destroi the old buildings all of their own as times passes, --but naturally so much slowlier than the fire !! What a shame, dear Liz.
A beautiful post for Our Beautiful World !

So happy to see you again at OBW Liz. I love the beauty of abandoned and weathered places. Here in the Netherlands we don't keep our ruins, they are removed immediately. Everything has to be so perfect and shiny happy. As if the passing of time and decay are not allowed. That's what I love about both France and England. Anyway, love your photo tour! Thank you for sharing with us at OBW. xx Wendy
