Decorating the house

I bet that after reading the title,  you are expecting to see lots of photos of our home in the UK decorated for the autumn, or for Halloween, or newly painted rooms......... errmm, nope, haven't done any of that. I am talking about a little house shaped shadow box thingy, which I had found at a vide greniers in France a week or so before we left the cottage.

I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it straight away, but I had to wait until we got back to England, and then it took me a few weeks to actually get round to it. The usual story, sigh, always getting sidetracked by other stuff.

I wanted to paint it, just roughly, and fill it with sewing related items, I thought that would look rather nice in a craft/sewing room. I used an off white paint called rice cake. Then I thought the little cubby holes looked too plain, so I printed some sewing stuff onto coffee stained paper and put that in some of the compartments. Some got vintage handwriting and some were left blank.

Had to use a little bit of lace of course, for a sort of gingerbread trim look, and as I had just found some gorgeous vintage Swarovski trim at a boot fair on Sunday, I wanted to use that as well, no project is complete without a bit of bling, lol.

No idea why all this took me sooo long, arrghh. Anyhoo, after that came the fun bit, finding lovely little sewing things to fill the little shelves with.  Finished project -

It is so much fun rearranging things, swapping out bits and pieces and going through my boxes to find other little things for the house.

I had so much fun making over this little house, I decided to share it with the lovely people over at the Feathered Nest Friday linky party on the gorgeous French Country Cottage blog, as well as the lovely people linking to the great Shabbilicious Friday linky party at the Shabby Art Boutique blog.

Wow Liz what a sweet and very beautiful house, love the images you have used as background for all your sew things, it takes a long time to make such a house, and find the things that fit into the small space,a finished house is a delight to look at and into.

I bet it didn't take as long as decorating a real house!

It's lovely. I really like the idea of the coffee stained paper as decoration. xx

This takes me (and perhaps you!) back to my childhood when we played with dollhouses and had tea parties and occasionally we were allowed to bring out the "real" china miniature tea cups and saucers which I still own!
You've done a really great job at decorating in white with the background script and love all the sweet sewing notions too!
I can see you playing with this off and on for hours and changing items as you find them.
Sweet dreams my dear friend!

That is so sweet. It reminds me very much of the days when I had a dolls house and spent hours arranging and re-arranging.
