Simply Neutrals Tuesday - Antique French Communion Bow

I didn't want to miss Wen's second Simply Neutrals Tuesday party , so I took a break from unpacking and took a few quick photos of this absolutely gorgeous 19th Century French Communion bow. It is huge, much bigger than any others I have found, and really beautiful. Made from watered silk fabric, with the prettiest knotted silk fringe, it is a really impressive piece. I wish I could have displayed it better though.

    My goodness what a find! It is gorgeous dear Liz, with the beautiful fringes and the crochet work. (Do you call that crochet too?) How would they wear it? As a bow in the hair for girls?     Oh I just love this communion stole Liz.
    One of my granddaughters made her First Communion in France when we were there this year - they all wore a yellow communion stole which was made of a silky fabric!
    Oh how I wish they still had the beautiful vintage bows like yours!
    Hours of work involved in making a piece like that with the fine lace and drawn thread work!
    What a find - it looks a little like old moire taffeta.

    Liz, What a gorgeous lace bow. It would look stunning at the back of a communion dress. I wonder if they still do all that dressing up in white or cream. Everyone used to go to so much trouble for ceremonies in the past. I am sure you will find a creative use for it among your beautiful things.
